Expensive funeral directors? Which cost the most?

It’s official – “Large Funeral Directing groups are significantly more expensive” says CMA

The Government’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has just published its provisional report on the funeral sector and the findings are shocking. It has discovered that the large funeral directing chains of Co-op and Dignity are significantly more expensive than many family-owned funeral directing businesses – by approximately £800 and £1400 respectively.

The figures confirm what many people in the independent sector already suspected – but the scale of the numbers is sickening.

The CMA is rightly concerned and believes that the market for funeral director services is not working well. It also states that there is a lack of easily accessible prices and information about products and services.

Peace Funerals welcome the CMA’s investigation of the sector and hope that any measures that they introduce will have the effect of shaking things up. We have always been committed to total transparency, and to fair and affordable prices. We hope the day will come when others will behave likewise.
