South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground
Golden Valley Woodland Burial Ground
If you want your passing, or that of a loved one, to bring some benefit to the environment, and like the idea of trees rather than upright gravestones being the way in which lives are remembered, you may wish to consider the idea of woodland burial.
Peace Funerals are pioneers in the field of woodland burial and established one of the first natural burial grounds in the country – the South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground which lies on the Rotherham – Sheffield border between Ulley and Aston.
We also manage the Golden Valley Woodland Burial Ground, near Ripley, Derbyshire, which forms part of the scenic Golden Valley Country Park.
Woodland burial grounds have a much less manicured appearance than traditional cemeteries, and grasses are 'topped' just three or four times a year, thus promoting wildflower growth and encouraging wildlife. As more burials take place, the land fills up with trees, and the burial ground becomes a wood. A special place for remembrance and an asset to the environment.
Peace Funerals have extensive experience of organising woodland burials across the region using other sites as well as the two that they manage. And we would advise anyone considering the idea of a natural burial to go and visit any site(s) that they are considering before making their final decision.
Both sites run by Peace Funerals are members of the Association of Natural Burial Grounds and abide by their Code of Conduct, giving you added security about the way that they are managed. But all sites have their own characteristics and qualities, and we feel that it is important that you choose one that feels right for you.
