South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground

Established in 1996, the South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground was one of the first cemeteries in the country to be established exclusively for woodland burial. It is open to people of all faiths and to people of none.

Nestled in a dip in a country lane (Ulley Lane/ Turnshaw Road) that runs between the village of Ulley and Aston-cum-Aughton, there are now over eight hundred trees, shrubs and plants marking the graves, and ashes plots, of those buried there.

In line with Peace Funerals’ philosophy of promoting funeral choice, families are allowed to select where their loved one’s plot is to be, within a limited choice of available plots.

You have the choice of having a plot with a tree, a plot with a shrub, or a plot with no tree (please note - if you choose a plot with a tree these are only availble as single depth plots. All other full burial plots are double depth) The costs for the full burial plots and grave digging are as follows:

Single Burial plot - Tree £1725
(includes cost of tree planted on grave and a stone tablet with up to 50 characters)
Interment (grave digging) costs £695

Double Burial plot - Shrub £895
(includes cost of shrub planted on grave and a stone tablet with up to 50 characters)
Interment (grave digging) costs £695

Double Burial plot – No Tree £745
(No tree is allowed on these graves) (includes cost of a stone tablet with up to 50 characters)
Interment (grave digging) costs £695

For ashes, there is only one type of plot. These can accommodate two sets of ashes and a shrub is planted on the plot at the time of the first burial of ashes. The costs for the ashes plots and the interment are as follows:

Double Ashes Shrub plot £550
(includes cost of shrub planted on grave and a stone tablet with up to 50 characters)
Ashes interment (each interment)
                           Weekdays £175
                           Weekends £225

And if you want to pre-purchase burial rights for yourself, give us a call on 0114 253 0505.

As the burial ground is not a deliverable address, it doesn’t have a postcode. But if you’re using satnav, you may want to enter the postcode of the Royal Oak at Ulley (S26 3YG) which is at the top of the same lane, about two thirds of a mile away.
